Marvel & DC
Marvel and DC:
A Quick History
When we were kids back in the day as we were growing up when it came to superhero’s it was either Superman or Batman. Those were the two major choices you had. As we grew up we didn’t have that many choices. Wasn’t like it was now that we have entered into another true golden period for comics. If you knew X-Men then you were a kid that probably watched them every weekend morning. Waking up early to watch them on FOX. Outside that if a kid was to mention Iron Man, Star-Lord or Rocket...he was a true comic fan.
Then the X-Men film came and showed that you could make money by staying true to the source material and appease people that people would come and see the film. Though for the quality in those early days it was hit or miss. Had a lot of crappy adaptations out there that some haven’t really been corrected. Where looking at you Fantastic Four; Daredevil on the other hand is an awesome TV show.
While Marvel was heading the front at your local movie houses DC was pinning away at your house. On your television every week. They had animated TV shows and live action shows. Batman the series or Smallville about the early days of Superman did great.
As far as comics themselves go it would appear that they have switched. Marvel being second place in sales as DC is winning. Though not because I think of writing but in the direction and choices they have made as far as team ups. What character is added and or taken out. Plus getting so upset that they lost the film rights that they shot themselves in the foot by axing X-Men. Which for Marvel is a big money maker doesn’t really help. Then someone got smart and made a whole new group basically with mutant powers. Putting them in X-Men’s place.
With Rebirth though they brought back the elements of old and mixed in some new. This is where I come into play with comics. I haven’t really ever read comics before and I have read a lot of these comics. Yes, some are better than others. That is to be expected when you have so many in place. The core stories and how they are presented are all awesome. I have to say that for me I’v been enjoying alot of this. The Marvel I found at the time to be harder to get into. They have such storylines but it was harder you had to jump around getting this other comic and numbers and all. It wasn’t really easy. Plus it also meant that much more money. The DC are way cheaper than the others. Though to be honest I was still paying a bit more. Snyder’s All Star Batman (Which is awesome by the way.) was five bucks. It only comes out once a month though.
I enjoy and like DC we are a DC fan house. Not like you could have actually learned that from above. Daniel my six year old enjoys the bigger stories and more of the action. I enjoy the characters and some of the set ups. Having said all of that there are some Marvel films that I do enjoy and like. Deadpool was I thought as a whole what the genre was needing. The X-Men films a whole I thought have been very good and looking forward to Logan. I like the Spiderman films; even the Andrew Garfield films.
I hope though that while I love what they are doing on TV that WB can turn it around. That the people that work there as corporate suites can figure out a way to deliver a fun and creative world. The news about Batman though is a bit disconcerting. I do think there is some biases in the geek media. Those that are trying to trash DC even before the film comes out. They can do this. The people will always know when one branch does something that is a bit much, or not right. Each will have their own side and it needs to be that way. DC needs Marvel and Marvel needs DC there should always be competition. If not then just turns into the WWE which if you're a wrestling fan or was you’ll know how much it sucks since WCW and ECW went out of business.
So tell me what you think in the comments below. Tell me which you enjoy or what your kid enjoys. What are your favorite DC and or Marvel movie? Can always hit me up on twitter if you so choose too.
