The Geek Proudly Presents!

The Birds

For those that haven’t seen or even heard of The Birds. I’ll start by saying that this is basically a monster movie. It’s based off a Daphne du Maurier short story. It was brought to life on the silver screen by Alfred Hitchcock. If you love or like thriller or suspenseful films he was the man that started the genre.

There are all different stories about Alfred and his wife and what happened. Some of his obsessions and some of how he worked. All are facinating and some are just well over the top. Alfred made a lot of films during this time. It’s during this time actually that I enjoy a lot of his films.

The film starts with a woman meeting a man over birds. They hit it off and she comes to visit him basically. Once she arrives though strange things start to happen. The birds in the area start attacking people. The people that live in this town believe it has something to do with her.

It’s a very good film and well made. The scary factor though has lessen through the ages. Horror does that as each movie in some way pushes the envelope more and more. It still packs a punch though I can’t handle a group of birds without feeling some uneasyness. Their are a handfull of scenes that are pretty intense and even one shot of for it’s day “gore”. I don’t think there is any language and nothing sexual. I believe that this is a good film to introduce to kids that want a bit of a scare or want to introduce them to other geek films besides Star Wars and superhero films.

I hope that you do check out this film and do enjoy it. It’s a fun ride that Alfred made for us. If you enjoy other Alfred films do let me know in the bottom. If you can think of another film that would be cool to be feature here on The Geek do let me know.  Since we are sharing I’m going to say that I enjoy a lot of the main stay type of films he did. As well as Rope, Strangers on a Train, Psycho, North by Northwest, To Catch a Theif (Which is on Netflix by the way.). Please let me know in the comments or on twitter. Enjoy your night hopefully has a few frights!
