"Play Ball!"
MLB The Show 17
Review
I don't want to actually say that this is a full review I haven't played with it that much and since the roster's are not fully set I don't want to jump the gun. When they are set we should get the updated rosters and so players might be updated and changed.
Though I have played each the retro, Road to the Show, and just a regular game and I have to say that I am really enjoying this game. This is the first PS4 MLB title that I have gotten. So any changes made when they made the jump I'm not to sure about. Having said that this is a lot of fun.
Lets break it down first and foremost I have to say that I have really been enjoying The Road to the Show. The aspects of making it kind of a really has smoothed it out. The fact that you also don't have to go through the whole game to play your parts. It makes it very fast and fun and can find yourself going through it a lot faster then the old ways. I love that you hear things through your controller. Voices it's recorded things that you'd actually hear if you were on the field. Another interesting made bonus. I will say that I'v only actually done fielding I'v not done that pitching aspects of The Road to Show. One of the challenging things I have found is that when you want to turn two you have to use the right stick and move it over the big R on the screen. This is actually really challenging since a lot of the times you'r character is moving away from themselves and just makes it harder. So if your new going to make a lot of errors till you get the hang of it.
The normal part of this game is actually really good. I'm using the metered when pitching and like always you do have to be more pinpoint in your control of the pitching. Depending on the teams and how they are ranked with the system depends on how easy or harder it is to use them. Though that is the idea. Hitting isn't like '15 where you were hitting home runs with ease and having blow outs. Think they have actually learned since that year and where as '16 it seemed to be a bit harder to get one this year it's balanced. It does make your games a bit less of a blow out.
Now on to the really cool and probably most fun of this year's MLB '17....and that is retro mode. Which sounds, looks and feels like a old 8 bit game. The players aren't 8 bit but the presentation and controls is a lot more simplistic. I've been letting my son who is 6 play this a lot and we have had a lot of good, fun games. Don't get me wrong he isn't really use to the mechanics but it's definitely easier for him to play this then the other.
Graphically there is a change once you get this as it should be since they are now on the PS4. I love the way that they used the sky. Standing in front of home plate and looking up at the sky's and the evening sky down to the rain is really cool. Environments are well done and kind of wish I could see sunsets like those in these games. Each year they use the same ballparks each with there own names. They have changed some of the way the stadiums look and added some new visuals which is nice. Kind of expected after so many years each would naturally update, change things.
Having said all of that I would actually say that this year is a strong year and there are a lot of interesting new and improved things. It's baseball season and should be a fun year! I do feel sorry for those stuck with RBI Double I really am. If you don't play sports titles I would actually hand this to that type of person, as there is depth and retro is a cool add on. The retro mode makes for fun party style gaming.
Once again I leave you all give me your opinions on this years MLB The Show down below. Have you been liking it or not? Do you really like retro mode?
