Logan and Noir

This week Logan dropped on DVD/Blu- Ray and I have to say that this film is brutal, bloody, and fucking brilliant. The film borrows very much in cowboy's and how it's kind of like the last stand- really a dark man finally comes to terms with his nature- told in a very violent and interesting way.

Logan starts in the future timeline and the X-Men are no more. Something happened actually once again in New York and the team was wiped out. Logan and the Professor are on the run and hiding out in Mexico; with Logan basically being a limo driver who tries to forget his past. Charles is sick and suffering from some disease and though it's not given a name in the movie we know it's a mental one. Just that with his mutant traits basically he becomes a walking, talking bomb. As it goes along he meets basically his daughter X-23. A girl that was born and used in a lab and the people from that lab want her back.

The whole film explores the nature of The Wolverine. What he should have been and what he has become and the people that have helped form him into what he became. It's a very violent and adult contented movie. This isn't for kids at all and I wouldn't recommend showing this to them. The thing is they won't get it. It's not just the violence but what Mangold has to say about life and living is very much a big idea.

This is though the Marvel movie that Marvel will never give us. Well, maybe if they were desperate for cash and could find a way. Though, I doubt very seriously we'd see that in the next 10 years. FOX and the X-men series is actually one of the tops right now. Taking out the atrocious Apocolypse. With Legion making the very trippy, weird and strange storytelling and this film FOX is kind of back in the superhero business.

On a more personal note, I hope that the girl from this move Laura becomes the new Wolverine. Not just because I think she's fitting story-wise and thematically. It's a fitting tribute to Logan. There should be a Wolverine and should kick ass.  Probably this weekend I'm going to be checking out the Noir and shall post some thoughts. It'll be posted here or on twitter if you want to come join me.
