"Theirs no crying in baseball"!

The Geek Presents!

A League of Their Own!

It's baseball season and since this is (As of this writing at least the second day.) the start of the new season. I thought might have some fun with this and actually highlight a film that normally wouldn't go for. It's nothing to do with really geeky things nor geeky moments.

Yet, I tend to beg to differ. It's not a bad movie and it's not bad that you can sit down and actually watch it with the kids and be a cool movie. There are other films that are just as good that are centered around baseball. The Sandlot is one of those films but I choose this one as it's funny and tells a good story.

It's about these two sister's both live during the 40's. It's in the middle of World War 2. Men have gone over sea's and have left women back home to tend to things while they are gone. Women would eventually take over the work place and do what the men did. They fixed things, made things, and even made bombs for the war effort. They also with the help of a wealthy business man actually put together a pro league.

The sister's in the movie join and go through, and land on the Rockford Peach team. There they meet Tom Hank's character. A washed up has been, that has blown out his leg and can't play anymore. He's also a drunk and not a great person. This is before Forrest Gump and all those movies he made that you think of in the 90's. This movie is kind of anchored by him and his performance.

There is a lot of comedy and some pretty funny, cool moments. This film though I should warn is PG-13. It's also a 90's PG-13 so to some might be a bit harsher though I don't recall that many bad scenes or nudity or anything like that. The film also has some wonderful one liners. Enjoy everyone and girls' can't play ball!
