Vampire Serenade
The Vampire Chronicles
I was a teenager when I first found Ann Rice. Standing in front of the book shelf looking at the books. There was some Stephen King, and Dean Koontz. Staring at the spines and the backs of them wandering if it would be scary and or be worth the read. At the time I wasn’t really about the longer novels and so that took Stephen out of the mix. I’d had some good experience with Koontz at the time so thought it he was a possibility.
Then I found Ann and her Interview with the Vampire. It was the old cover and just had really the name and believe it was red in color. I picked it up and then I noticed too another novel. This one was titled Exit to Eden. Both of those novels were bought that day. Though to be honest it was Exit that I read first and was whisked away with. Taken to some pretty naughty areas to tell the truth.
When I finally did read Interview it just spoke to me. The way the characters were and the setting. It was literally as if she was putting down some old alternative history and you were apart of it. Lestat was always an interesting character and was such a menace in that novel. As I got older I found more of her vampire novels and loved those to varying degree.
You can imagine my reaction when it was announced late last year that she had been given the rights back from Universal. That I guess time had run out and they were lost back to her. Which was awesome to tell you the truth. The things I had heard about what they were doing wasn’t really at all that great. What little information was out there on them.
So now her and her son Christopher Rice; who is a writer to his own credit and not a bad one I must say. They are both venturing into making this series into a Game of Thrones style show. The cool thing is that you get to help them. They have set up a facebook group and there can put in your own two cents about whom you think should play who and showrunners and all sorts. I think that this is awesome and very much a cool thing. I haven’t heard of anyone out there that has a series that is so open.
I hope that they find a good home that is willing to give this series a chance and not ax it. I can already see the petitions and signatures now if the show was just thrown away. Good too that she’s keeping things as is and hitting the MA rating that it deserves.
There should always be the root things those that make this series a series; yet there should be some changes. I’m not saying that it should be done as it was in True Blood, but it shouldn’t be forgotten like the early 2000 comic book movies. I am waiting with baited breath if I am allowed to say, and I hope that this series is a good one because I think it could be done very well. You have created an awesome series. So all that just knew Twilight and Edward stand back because soon, very soon you’ll hear about Lestat. He’s a very different vampire, but a brat of a one!
